“A young family re-locating to the Western Cape was looking to change from city living to a more relaxed country lifestyle in which to bring up their young family and settled for the exclusive Pearl Valley Golf Estate located near Paarl, just 30 minutes away from the Mother City of Cape Town.

The owners approached Antoni Associates to create an interior that was modern but with an emphasis on ‘barefoot luxury’ and the use of natural materials. The design approach by Mark Rielly and Jon Case was to focus on the use of natural organic materials such as timber and stone. These tactile materials add a sense of homeliness and warmth to the contemporary architecture. Timber flooring was used throughout, which contrasts with the raw off-shutter concrete ceilings, warm stone and marble cladding.

The owners of this home love to entertain and wanted the house to reflect their lifestyle. The informal family spaces include an open plan kitchen, informal dining and open bar, all linked to the entertainment lounge. A feature marble clad two-sided fireplace divides and screens off the family lounge from the spa room. These areas of the house flow out onto the outdoor entertainment deck with a sunken outdoor boma (a typical South African outdoor enclosure). Here timber seating is casually arranged around an open fire.

The furniture is modern and complementary to the experience of the home. The clients’ love for colour has been introduced with injections of bold prints and vibrant fabrics. Bespoke furniture from OKHA Interiors is featured throughout. A combination of bold and discreet lighting was used to create a “wow” factor and the layering of lighting set various moods. Subtle lighting has been incorporated in all recesses and feature bulkheads to give a warm glow to peripheral edges. Concealed lighting has also been used to highlight and accentuate the organic natural finishes.”

San Juan Cliffside House located on top of the ridgeline, nearby the woods and overlooking the coast of San Juan island. This awesome house design with two volumetric designed by Prentiss Architects on San Juan Island, situated in Washington State. Materially the house is clad in a grey concrete combination with wood,  several small terraces and exterior spaces aim to create a more airy, and living space more comfortable like Japanese garden design. The main window aperture matches the cinematic proportions of the overlooks the coast of San Juan Island. Enjoy the photos!

The side table strong and simple inspired by tree trunks with holes in the middle, this organic aesthetic is complemented by a lightly concrete with unique shape  ( tree trunks ) looks cute and fresh in home interior.

“Kreten Side Tables are the result of a concrete molding process used to create smooth, industrial organic side tables that breathe life into an often-quotidian material. Each table is formed in a rubberized-fabric that is filled with fiberglass reinforced concrete. The weight of the concrete, in conjunction with the stretch of the fabric allows each table to take on a unique form.”

John Wardle Architects designed this fabulous house located in Victoria, Australia , called  Fairhaven Residence, interiors clad in wood from floor to ceiling, and expansive glazing framing views of the ocean.

“ This nimble beach house enjoys panoramic views over the southern ocean and surf beach.

Located on top of the ridgeline above the Great Ocean Road on the Victorian coastline, the proportions, orientation and dimensions of windows are tailored to particular views and to reveal internal spaces.

Our design process is akin to scenography, cutting together sensory and spatial experiences to frame the theatre of inhabitation within.

The spatial journey through the house from arrival to view is choreographed to increase anticipation before reaching the main living space. As you step beneath a cantilevered study into a dramatic vertical entry space, you become acutely aware of a number of twists and folds along its length that make the transformation into horizontal living space. The main window aperture matches the cinematic proportions of the ocean view.

This beach house coils and steps around a protected central courtyard, which creates an outdoor space sheltered from the harsh prevailing winds. The living area doors and an oversized sliding kitchen window open up and integrate the courtyard with the house during fine weather.

Materially the house is clad in a green-grey zinc cladding, for both its longevity and natural colouring that merges with the scrub and tea tree landscape. In contrast, the interior surfaces of the house are completely lined in timber to form an enclosure for living that its inhabitants become completely immersed within.

Your eye is then always drawn toward the dramatic outlook beyond.”

This modern house design called Butterfly House  located in Sydney, and of course we love style of this cool, curved wall like butterfly wings designed by architects Lippmann Partnership.

Here is description from the architects :

” Lippmann Partnership was invited to submit a design to a property developer for his own house in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The corner site faces due north and offers panoramic views over the city and harbour to the west. The client insisted that the house should have no straight lines due to his belief in Feng Shui principals – the Chinese study of space, the relationship of buildings to nature.

The stunning result is a sculptural curvaceous form of glass, aluminium, concrete and steel which has become a local Sydney landmark.

The 480 sq. metre house is organised over 6 split levels corresponding to a gentle fall across the site.

A basement garage and services level below ground level is topped by the two “butterfly wings” above.

Bedrooms are accommodated over 2 levels in the east facing wing enjoying ocean views and morning sunrise. Living areas also accommodated over 2 levels accommodate the west facing wing where sunsets over Sydney harbour and the city skyline form a stunning panorama.

The central staircase is part of the stack cooling natural ventilation system while high thermal mass allows the house to be low energy and green.”

“Terho is a ceiling lamp series designed for homes and public spaces. The lamps are inspired by natural and sympathetic shapes of acorns. Terho series includes two different sizes and many hat variations. Materials are opal white mouth-blown glass and Finnish alder.

Tatti (Porcino, Boletus edulis) is a cozy table lamp. There is two different hat pieces to choose from. Tatti is designed to go along with Terho lamp series. Materials are opal white mouth-blown glass and Finnish alder.”

“Located on a rolling farm property in upstate New York, the LM Guest House celebrates the beauty of the surrounding landscape– sweeping views through an all-glass facade magnify the spacious, open feel of the living areas.The home employs several sustainable design strategies including geothermal heating and cooling, radiant floors, motorized solar shading, photovoltaic panels, and rainwater harvesting.

The open living and sleeping areas flow around a compact slatted wood core that disguises the mechanical, storage, and bathing spaces. Two sleeping couchettes with built-in bunk beds provide efficient accommodations for additional weekend guests. Natural white oak wood detailing provides warmth and texture throughout the home.

The high-performance glass facade was pre-fabricated off site, shipped in one container, and erected in two days. An innovative steel frame structure allows the roof to cantilever dramatically over the open living areas and bedroom.”

This amazing renovation of Beck Residence, presenting panoramic vistas of the  skyline and the beach from loft area. Situated  in Corona del Mar, California, this  modern Beck Residence designed by Horst Architects. It’s hard to tell where the best views from the loft and interior design.

Here description from the architect :

Perched atop a rocky seaside promontory, this loft renovation is an efficient response to the problem of limited space with simplicity and restraint being the guiding principles of the design solution. The clients requested a design which would accommodate office work by day and intimate social and familial gatherings by night. The interior spaces have been completely reconfigured into an open plan evolving around a double height entry volume containing the principal stairway.

Sliding partitions and fabric behind frameless glass have replaced traditional means of enclosure and spatial transition. A sculptural interplay of material, light and form define spaces, which are both intimate and communal, sheltering yet expansive. Indoor and outdoor living is integrated by frameless, bi-folding doors. Windows are positioned to embrace the view of the harbor, while second skin systems such as wood shutters mediate the late afternoon sun and provide privacy.

The changing play of light on surfaces, the breezes that move through and around the structure, the touch and smell of walls and gardens, the play of colors, the sound of spaces all play a part in the reception of architecture as it is lived in, and are important determinants in our well being.
